Erzählung
Der Doktorand Luca reist in die kalifornische Bimssteinsenke, um den Jesuiten und Physiker Michael Phillips aufzusuchen – einst Systemarchitekt der Dialoggrammatiken für das KI/Quanten-System ARS. Phillips hat die Sprache abgelegt. Er sitzt auf der Veranda einer Holzbaracke und fixiert die thermische Erstarrung des Gesteins. Was Luca findet, ist kein Forscher mehr, sondern eine Versuchsbedingung: Ein Beobachter, der den Zerfall der Kohärenz protokolliert. Die Erzählung führt die Frage nach dem Omega-Punkt bis an ihre äußerste Konsequenz – und zeigt, was übrig bleibt, wenn alle Berechnungen eingestellt werden: die Steine.
Doctoral student Luca travels to the Californian pumice basin to visit the Jesuit and physicist Michael Phillips – once the system architect of the dialogue grammars for the AI/quantum system ARS. Phillips has shed language. He sits on the porch of a wooden shack, fixating on the thermal solidification of the rock. What Luca finds is no longer a researcher, but an experimental condition: an observer documenting the disintegration of coherence. The narrative follows the question of the Omega Point to its ultimate consequence – and shows what remains when all calculations cease: the stones.

Sie kann parallel zur Trilogie gelesen werden – als Innenperspektive einer einzelnen Geschichte im Multiversum, während die Trilogie die Multiversumsperspektive einnimmt.
Verhältnis zum Essay „Drei Filme Zwei Bücher": Die Erzählung ist zugleich eine Antwort auf Don DeLillos Point Omega und Jaco Van Dormaels Mr. Nobody – und auf den Essay, der beide Werke analysiert. Wo der Essay die beiden Register beschreibt, führt die Erzählung sie vor. Keiner der beiden Texte setzt den anderen voraus.
Relation to the Pompeii Project: The narrative is not a novel of the trilogy. It is a standalone literary elaboration of the same movement of thought underlying the trilogy. It can be read in parallel with the trilogy – as the inner perspective of a single history within the multiverse, while the trilogy adopts the multiverse perspective.
Relation to the essay "Three Films Two Books": The narrative is also a response to Don DeLillo's Point Omega and Jaco Van Dormael's Mr. Nobody – and to the essay that analyzes both works. Where the essay describes the two registers, the narrative enacts them. Neither text presupposes the other.
